How to Perform Salat ul Eid - With Video

Salat al-Eid is a Fard Kifaya (Fard meaning that if performed by some, the obligation falls from the rest) congregational prayer. Eid prayer must be offered in congregation. It consists of two Raka'ah (units) with seven Takbirs in the first Raka'ah and five Takbirs in the second Raka'ah. For Sunni Muslims, Salat al-Eid differs from the five daily canonical prayers in that no adhan (Call to Prayer) or iqama (call) is pronounced for the two Eid prayers.

One may want to watch the video below. While watching the views, count the number of takbeers to get acquainted to it. What stands out in Salat El Eid are indded the seven takbeers in the first rakaa, and five takbeer in the second rakaah.

"Istikhara" means to seek goodness from Allah (Exalted is He), meaning when one intends to do an important task they do istikhara before the task. The one who does the istikhara is as if they request Allah Almighty that, O the Knower of Unseen (Exalted is He) guide me if this task is better for me or not?

According to Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 21, Number 263:
Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah :The Prophet (Sallal Laho Alaihi Wasallam) used to teach us the way of doing Istikhara, in all matters as he taught us the Suras of the Quran. He said, "If anyone of you thinks of doing any job he should offer a two Rakat prayer other than the compulsory ones and say (after the prayer):

WAY TO PERFORM ISTIKHARA:
First pray Two Cycles (raka') of ritual Prayer (nafil) such that in the first raka' after Surah Fatiha (Allhamd…) recite Surah al-Kafirun (Chapter 109) and in the second raka' after Fatiha (Allhamd…) recite Surah al-Ikhlas (Chapter 112). After finishing prayer recite this (supplication/dua'): Dua in Arabic Text above.

TRANSLATION: "O Allah! I seek goodness from Your Knowledge and with Your Power (and Might) I seek strength, and I ask from You Your Great Blessings, because You have the Power and I do not have the power. You Know everything and I do not know, and You have knowledge of the unseen. Oh Allah! If in Your Knowledge this action ------------------------------------------------ (which I intend to do) is better for my religion and faith, for my life and end [death], for here [in this world] and the hereafter then make it destined for me and make it easy for me and then add blessings [baraka'] in it, for me. O Allah! In Your Knowledge if this action is bad for me, bad for my religion and faith, for my life and end [death], for here [in this world] and the hereafter then turn it away from me and turn me away from it and whatever is better for me, ordain [destine] that for me and then make me satisfied with it."

How many times?
It depends. Sometimes it takes only once to get the answer and sometimes it takes longer. It is better to do istakhara seven (7) times. If you have received an answer as explained in the section below, stop doing istikhara. You do not have to continue to do isitkhara for 7 days. It is better that right after reciting the supplication, given above, sleep with ablution (people who cannot keep the ablution for longer times due to health problems do not have to worry about ablution before falling asleep) facing the direction of the Qibla (facing the Qibla is not required but it is a Sunnat of our beloved Prophet Peace Be Upon Him). It is better to recite salutations (durood/ salawat) on the Prophet Allah's Grace and Peace be upon him before and after the above Dua (supplication).

Answer:
If in the dream one sees whiteness (means any thing white in color, for example: milk, white paper, white sky, white clothes, white light etc.) or greenness (means any thing green in color, for example: grass, plants, trees, green clothes, green light etc.) then understand that this task is better and if one sees redness (means any thing red in color, for example: blood, red clothing, red fruit, red light etc.) or blackness (means any thing black in color, for example: black water, black light, black clothings, black sky, black wall etc. ) then understand it is bad and avoid it.

If do not remember any dream or do not see any colors then follow your heart. Whatever intention grows stronger in your heart regarding your targated work follow it after seven days of Istakhara.

Zaqat al fitr has to be paid as soon as possible, on the eve of al Eid. It must be paid no later than salat al Eid, but one should not wait for the morning of al Eid or for salat at Eid to give it out, as the zaqat at fitr is needed by the needy and the poor to have a happy eid, like others in the muslim society.

Shaykh Yasir Qadhi speaks about Solomon and the gifts Allah had bestowed on him, including the ability of Solomon to control the Jinn. The Shaykh also explains about Jinns, their existence, and their nature and abilities. This is an eye-opener lecture!

Unfortunately, some Muslims are prone to superstitious beliefs about Jinns, and are fearful of them as non-Muslims are fearful of "ghosts" or "spirits". This lecture dispels many popular misconceptions about Jinns in Islam.

We encourage all Muslims to rid themselves of superstitions with more knowledge.

Facing Hardships or Trials With Iman

During the last 10 days of Ramadan, Muslims pray fervently to Allah for forgiveness for sins committed knowingly or unknowingly. Many will also seek His blessings for good in this world and in the Hereafter. If someone is facing hardships or particular trials, he will ask for relief from his worries and difficulties.

Shaykh Abu Muntasir from the UK speaks in a two part series on Facing Trials with Iman.

The Shaykh explains that it is the Sunnah of Allah to grant relief after hardship. In fact Allah promises his relief to follow hardship. The pious savants who proceded us had absolute trust in this and Shaykh Abu Muntasir reminds us that if Allah does not keep his promise who will?

The Shaykh reminds us that tests that we face are opportunities of patience and grattitude. Moreover Allah promises a way out for those with Taqwa. Taqwa being the key to the pleasure of Allah.

Shaykh Abu Muntasir also mentions things according to the Quran and the Sunnah that will expedite the help of Allah:

1) Know Allah during good times
2) Invocation to Allah
3) Salaat was-Salaam (Sending Prayers and Peace upon RasoolAllah)

The last 10 days of Ramadan is upon us (time flies much too fast!). As we approach the most sacred nights of the holy month of Ramadan (Laylatul Qadr), we encourage all Muslims to maximize the next 10 days with a lot of duas and as always to please keep us in your duas. Only Allah knows if we will be around to experience Ramadan next year. Do not let anything interrupt you from worshiping Allah as He should be.

How to do salat Video:

Salat (or Salah) is the muslim prayer. There are five obligatory prayers. The video shows how to perform the salat (the muslim prayers). It does not include the performance of wudu (abulitions), and some other requirement such as the intention to make the prayers. The video rather focuses on the performance of the salat. 1) Men raise their hands all the way to the ear for Takbeer while women raise their hands only up to their shoulders.

2) In Qayam (the standing posture) Men place their hands below Navel while women place their hands on their chest.

3) Men grasp their wrist while women do not. They only place right hand on the top of left with fingers intact together.

4 ) In Ruku (the bowing posture) Men’s back is horizontal while women suppose to bend their back only far enough to touch their knees. Looking from far it will look like a bow arc. They won’t flatten their back.

5 ) In Sajdah men’s back portion is raised from ground and hands apart from body and fingers of feet twisted while women suppose to be gathered in a way so that all their body parts are close together and abdomen placed over her thighs.Both feet and ankles sticking out to the right. Lower portion of back touching the ground.

6 ) During Jalsa and Qaida (sitting between Sajdah and during Attahyat) men sit on their left ankle and their right foot’s fingers are twisted while women sit on floor and their both ankles and feet sticking out towards right hand side.

Each year during Ramadan, more than a hundred of the best young students from more than 70 countries across the Islamic world converge on Cairo for Egyptʼs International Holy Koran Competition, one of the Islamic worldʼs most prestigious contests. Some of the competitors are as young as seven, and several have memorized the entire 600-page Koran without actually speaking Arabic.

Watch this documentary that shows the journey of three Muslim children from different countries taking part in the International Holy Koran Competition in Cairo.

There are many things one can take away after watching this video - but one thing stands out: how amazing it is that the non-speakers of the Arabic (and mere children at that) can master Quran recitation and be fluent at it. If they were also taught the Arabic language, they would have a greater understanding of the Quran. One thing to consider for parents of young children: the capacity of children to learn is limitless - consider teaching your children to understand the language of the Quran, and not only to read it...

A personal reason why we thought to divide the video rather than uploading them as one whole video was that we wanted to pray at home when we could not go to the mosque (due for instance to distance and possible lack of car) and we wanted to "perform" the Taraweeh at home using the replay as replacement of imam readings. We do not know if this is an acceptable practice, so you are responsible for what you do with this videos. We recommend that you consult an imam on this matter. It is however our opinion, as non-islamic scholars, that these videos can be used as a last resort, for instance by Muslims in remote areas not living in daar al islam where they cannot find mosques nearby particularly at night.

Of course these videos are great to watch after your Taraweeh, and during anytime as they are performed by some of the great imams of our times.

A general note which applies to the Taraweeh video series from Makkah. We could have posted only one Video encompassing all prayers, but we thought of the idea of dividing the prayers into sets of two rakaats each so that one call follow them with possible breaks, and to complete the set with the duas that follow the prayers. This makes a total of 11 to 12 videos, since typically the number of rakaats are 20, and the prayers involve two rakaats, and then a last rakaat in which the prayers are said. In doing this work, we were lucky to find a person who already had a similar idea, and already made the videos, and posted them on you tube. May Allah bless him, and we wish to recognize his work here.

Posting the videos here might also make these videos appropriate to watch in a family setting, particularly in presence of kids and other family members. A general note which applies to the Taraweeh video series from Makkah. Our contribution is mainly to post the videos here, out of youtube where they may not be easy to locate, in addition to avoiding being in contact with non-Islamic videos as is typically the case when one visits youtube.

Posting the videos here might also make these videos appropriate to watch in a family setting, particularly in presence of kids and other family members. It also makes the experience more rewarding from a concentration point of view as one can watch or pray along the video, AND then move to the next video after each Tasleem.

A personal reason why we thought to divide the video rather than uploading them as one whole video was that we wanted to pray at home when we could not go to the mosque (due for instance to distance and possible lack of car) and we wanted to "perform" the Taraweeh at home using the replay as replacement of imam readings. We do not know if this is an acceptable practice, so you are responsible for what you do with this videos. We recommend that you consult an imam on this matter. It is however our opinion, as non scholars in islamic matters, that these videos can be used as a last resort, for instance by Muslims living in remote areas, and/or not living in daar al islam where they cannot find mosques nearby particularly at night.

Of course these videos are great to watch after your Taraweeh at your local mosque, and during anytime afterwards, as they are led by some of the great imams of our times.
